Newcastle to clear up Ameobi's Nigeria issue

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew insists that the issue involving Shola Ameobi and the Nigerian national team will soon be cleared up.

The Nigerian Football Federation wants the 31-year old striker to join them at the 2013 African Cup of Nations in South Africa next month but Pardew is keen on him remaining at Sports Direct Arena as the Magpies look to improve their position on the Premier League table.

Pardew has insisted that he wants Ameobi to stay put and has revealed that a definitive answer will be made known as soon as it comes to light.

"It's something we are trying to clear up with the authorities there, and I don't really want to say anymore than that," he said.

"We seem to have two different messages coming out. We should hopefully clear that up over the next couple of days and have a more definitive answer for the media before the start of next week."
