Newcastle United chief scout Graham Carr has confirmed their interest in Lille striker Gervinho.
However, Carr admits the Ivory Coast international's asking price could be too steep for the Toon.
"I asked Sven (Goran Eriksson) about Gervinho because he had him when he was at the Ivory Coast," he told the Sunday Sun.
"Sven said that he will probably cost you a lot of money! He is a good player but probably not an out-and-out striker, so it is up to the manager to decide what kind of player he wants."
