Newcastle United managing director Derek Llambias says it was important tying manager Alan Pardew to a five-year deal.
Llambias has thrown his weight behind Pardew, who will be looking for the win that would push United closer to survival this weekend against Wolves.
He told the Evening Chronicle: "We need to get that stability back here, including on the managerial side.
"We are starting to get the stability we need into the football club both financially and within the squad.
"That stability is one of our most important goals.
"That would give us the security that the club and the playing side needs."
