Newcastle United are preparing an offer for Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.
The Daily Star Sunday says they will move for Reading keeper McCarthy if they lose the in-demand Tim Krul.
Toon scouts are tracking McCarthy, 23, who has played for England at Under-21s level.
Dutch stopper Krul, 25, has been linked with a move to Juventus to succeed Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon.
