Newcastle challenging Everton for Besiktas midfielder Ozyakup

Newcastle United are challenging Everton for Besiktas midfielder Oguzhan Ozyakup.

The Magpies are understood to have held talks with the Turkish international's agent, Kees Vos, says the Mirror.

Toon chiefs are said to be prepared to meet the player's wage demands of £2.5million a season.

Everton's ex-Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce signed Turkey striker Cenk Tosun from Besiktas for £27m in January and is eager to reunite him with Ozyakup, 25, who is a free agent this summer.

West Ham and Arsenal, who sold Dutch-born Ozyakup to Besiktas for £400,000 in the summer of 2012, have also been on his trail.
