Newcastle United are joining the battle for Werder Bremen defender Jannik Vestergaard.

The Denmark international has been a long-term target for Everton, which have been following him since his time with Hoffenheim.

However, BILD says Newcastle are also interested in Vestergaard, who can play at fullback and centre-half.

Vestergaard moved to Werder last January and his club will be reluctant to lose him barely a year after his transfer.

However, the spending power of Newcastle and Everton will prove difficult for Werder's board to resist.
