Newcastle chairman Chris Mort has ruled out fanciful speculation linking the club with a move for David Beckham.

Tuesday's newspapers suggested owner Mike Ashley and manager Kevin Keegan had turned to Hollywood in a bid to inject some glitz and glamour into The Magpies' playing squad.

But Mort denied that a delegation of Newcastle officials would be travelling stateside to discuss a deal with Beckham's LA Galaxy employers.

"There's no truth Newcastle United are interested in signing David Beckham," said Mort.
