Newcastle caught up in Luque cash row

Newcastle United are embroiled in a new court case involving former player Alberto Luque.

The Sunday Sun says the Magpies may be due a shock windfall as a result of the legal dispute between Luque and his former club Deportivo La Coruna.

Luque left Deportivo for Newcastle in August 2005, and insists he was entitled to a 15 per cent cut of the 14.7 million Euros (£10 million) deal.

And Deportivo's refusal to pay him the 2.2 million Euros (£1.6 million) has prompted the 29-year-old - who left United for Ajax for nothing last summer - to launch court proceedings in La Coruna.

But Deportivo's lawyers claim the money was contractually due to Newcastle, not to Luque.

As yet, it is unclear whether the Magpies have ever received the £1.6 million.
