Newcastle United are in new contract talks with Joey Barton.
The Daily Mail says Newcastle head to a four-day training camp in Portugal today and are close to agreeing a new deal with Barton and will open talks after January with Andy Carroll with a view to improving his contract.
Barton has indicated he's prepared to take a pay-cut to stay on Tyneside.
The midfielder has been linked with Aston Villa.
