Newcastle United boss Alan Shearer has held showdown talks with Obafemi Martins after his late withdrawal for Saturday's draw at Stoke City.
The Nigeria striker pulled out of the game six hours before kick-off with a groin strain after Shearer had decided to change his line-up and system to combat Stoke's impressive home record.
Shearer said: "We have to believe him. I wasn't too happy that I got the call at 11 o'clock, particularly after we trained all Thursday and Friday and had massages on Friday evening and there was no sign of it."
