Newcastle boss Pardew: Weird being second-longest serving Premier League manager

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew admits it's a concern he's now the second longest serving manager in the Premier League.

Pardew is hoping club owners and chairmen remain sensible throughout the season. No doubt Pardew includes his own boss Mike Ashley who has appointed Joe Kinnear as director of football in another turbulent summer on Tyneside.

Pardew said: "For me, every day I'm proud to be the Newcastle manager and I want to attack every game. But whatever stats build up, they build up.

"With my LMA hat on, which is important to me, it is a little bit worrying. It's not even three years and I'm the second longest in the division.

"I saw an interview with Dave Jones this week. What has he lost, three games? You could tell that he was under huge pressure already, which is ridiculous really. An experienced manager like him, Sheffield Wednesday should feel lucky to have him in my opinion. But it is a tough role.

"The Premier League stats were actually better last year, but the Football League is a complete minefield. It's very difficult to keep most of the people happy most of the time. But that's the job we have to do."
