Newcastle boss Pardew turns to Blackburn defender Samba

Newcastle United are eyeing Blackburn Rovers captain Christopher Samba.

The Sunday Sun says Toon boss Alan Pardew wants a Brit-based defender to replace Steven Taylor this January - and Newcastle are weighing up a move for Samba.

Samba's current asking price of £10m would be too much, but United might hope to exploit uncertainty at Blackburn and take him for nearer £7m.
