Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew says Cheick Tiote will maintain the captaincy for the derby at Sunderland.

Pardew is hoping he can produce a performance like his man-of-the-match display against Liverpool.

The Toon boss told the Evening Chronicle: "I was really pleased with him against Liverpool.

"We need him at this level."
