Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew was full of praise for Steven Taylor in victory over Stoke City.

Taylor boosted his claims for an England place with another towering display in the heart of the Newcastle defence.

"Steven was immense," said Pardew.

"He gave a performance of England standard. They really do need to have a look at him at centre-half as it is a problem position for them."
