Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has had a pop at Darren Bent over the Aston Villa striker's loan move to Fulham.
The Magpies were unwilling to subsidise the majority of £75,000 per week wages, a pay packet that would have made him one of the highest paid at the club.
Pardew told the Evening Chronicle: "I think he's taken the safer option, to be honest.
"Here, he'd have been under the spotlight a bit more.
"With England, it would have been better for him.
"He's taken that option, and I wish him all the best."
