Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew says fans can be excited about their summer market plans.

Names such as Ajax skipper Jan Vertonghen and FC Twente's Douglas have already been mooted, but Pardew is keeping his cards close to his chest.

With transfer discussions with clubs in Europe and at home already under way, Pardew told the Evening Chronicle: "I think we have enough players to excite the fans.

"I think it is important now that we bring in the players that are going to take us forward. We have plans to do that."
