Newcastle boss Pardew: Sir Alex will be happy about 8-year contract

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew admits he gets along with Manchester United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson.

Pardew recently signed a new eight-year deal at Newcastle and reckons Sir Alex will welcome that move by Magpies owner Mike Ashley.

He said: "In Alex's role with the League Managers' Association, he likes to see managers rewarded with good contracts, in terms of trying to build a club.

"I get on with him as well as you might expect.

"We have a fierce rivalry as all managers do. But, of course, in terms of his knowledge, you have to give him the utmost respect.

"Hopefully we can put it to bed when it kicks off and entertain him afterwards.

"I hope the wine is good enough. He isn't getting anything special this time - he's a bit clever about his wine.''
