Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has confirmed that the club will go about strengthening the squad as soon as they make sure of survival this season.
The Magpies boss has big plans for the St James' Park outfit this summer and will send scouts out on a recruiting drive the minute they sure up their Premier League status.
With cash to burn following the £35million sale of Andy Carroll, Newcastle can afford to bring in some new faces and Pardew plans to do just that.
"That focus is something that excites me but it is very much secondary in my mind at the minute because the job in hand is to make sure that we are a Premier League side," he said.
But Pardew knows there is plenty of work to do before the Toon can call themselves a top flight club next season. Despite sitting 11th on the table, they are only four points clear of the drop zone ahead of tomorrow's home clash with bottom-of-the-table Wolves.
"The way the league is congested and how tight it is - 36 points at this time with eight games to go, we should have a fair bit of breathing space, but we haven't, of course, because the team at the top of the relegation area has 32," Pardew added.
"It's a period when you have to concentrate and give everything in every game, and as long as I am manager, that's what we will do."
