Newcastle United are eyeing Leeds United defender Sam Byram.
The Mirror says Newcastle's Alan Pardew has joined the £8million chase for Leeds rising star Sam Byram.
The Magpies will go into battle over his signature with Premier League rivals Manchester City, Everton and West Brom when the January transfer window opens.
Toon boss Pardew is tracking Byram, 20, after the right-back's return to action following a five-month lay-off with a nagging hip problem.
Pardew is hoping to get a first-hand glimpse of the highly-rated youngster in Wednesday night's Capital One Cup clash between his side and Brian McDermott's Championship troops at St James' Park.
