Newcastle boss Pardew ready to hand Elliot chance tonight

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is set to hand goalkeeper Rob Elliot his chance tonight against Maritimo.

The Greenwich-born shot-stopper has not featured at first-team level since last season's League Cup defeat against Nottingham Forest.

And it is thought United want to save Steve Harper for Sunday's Premier League contest with Norwich City.

Pardew told the Evening Chronicle: "It's a tough decision with the game on Sunday, and playing Monday. Whether Harps can play three games in a week, I don't know. Rob perhaps deserves to have a look. I'll probably make a late call as to whether Rob plays in goal for this one."
