Newcastle boss Pardew: Maverick Man City striker Tevez let himself down

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew says Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez let himself down in his clash with manager Roberto Mancini.

Pardew worked with Tevez at West Ham United.

Pardew condemned Tevez's actions, but insisted he was not the first.

He said: "He's a maverick player and most Premier League clubs, we all carry one or two.

"They are going to have their moments and sometimes, it is about managing those moments.

"What Carlos did, there can't be any credit in what he did, but it does happen.

"He isn't the first and he certainly won't be the last who won't want to warm up and is sulking a little bit because they are not playing.

"But all these situations are about circumstance and timing and perhaps they just got that completely wrong the other night.

"I have been in that situation two or three times, and it's difficult.

"You have just got to try to get the right end result, sometimes. The end result at the moment doesn't look perfect for Manchester City because they have got a player who is obviously upset.

"They have fined him two weeks' money and now there's some conflict.

"It's the end game that's important and, if Carlos goes in the next window, then that will be the end game, I guess. But who knows? Sometimes you have got to look at the bigger picture.

"Tevez, for me, is a great player, he is a good personality and I think this week, he has let himself down. But he won't be the first to have done that."
