Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is chasing Aston Villa striker Darren Bent.
The Mirror says Pardew is looking at the experienced marksman as he puts a new forward line together.
Loic Remy is going back to QPR after a season on loan and neither Papiss Cisse nor loanee Luuk de Jong have demonstrated they are the long-term answer.
Pardew wants to spend big on a striker, but may swoop for Bent in a cheap deal to provide competition and cover.
