Newcastle boss Pardew hopeful of Enrique stay

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is remaining hopeful that star defender Jose Enrique will remain at the club.

The 25-year old Spanish left-back has attracted attention from the likes of Liverpool and French outfit Lyon and with one year remaining on his Magpies contract could be on his way out at St James' Park.

But Pardew says that talks will occur soon as he takes a realistic approach to the Toon future of the former Villarreal man.

"We have been waiting to see his representatives, they are due here in the early part of next week," Pardew told the Evening Chronicle.

"We are going to make Jose a very, very good offer and we are hoping he is going to accept it.

"We are realistic about Jose, because the ball is in his court on that one, not in ours.

"He will be offered a fantastic contract here, he knows that, but still it is going to be down to his decision. I am still hopeful."
