Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has big plans for Vurnon Anita next season.

Ex-Ajax star Anita did manage to make 37 appearances for the Magpies, but many of them were in bit-part roles, and the midfielder lost his place in the Holland squad.

Pardew told the Evening Chronicle: "I think it's been a year where Vurnon's had to adapt in a team that's not done well and wasn't playing its best football.

"He's suffered because of the injuries we've had as much as everybody else.

"He's a great technician with the ball, and he'll be better next year. We'll be looking to him to push on next year."
