Newcastle boss Pardew happy to dedicate Chelsea win to Ashley

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew was happy to dedicate victory over Chelsea to owner Mike Ashley.

Ashley has come under massive criticism from fans and the local press in recent weeks.

"With everything that's been going on this week, the local media, the criticism of Mike Ashley, a derby defeat, it's tough," he said.

"But you have to remember Mike is a fan of this football club and I'm pleased for him and I'm pleased for every fan.

"We have great spirit and that shone through. The Premier League is all about momentum. We lost it at Sunderland and now we've got some again.

"We've beaten Chelsea but let's not get carried away and say we're going to be in Europe and we'll be great, just as it would not have been a disaster had we lost three on the trot.

"It's important that we, and this city in particular, keep our feet on the ground at all times.

"This region has lost five of its six managers this season and I just think that sometimes it goes mad up here and we have got to keep it together. Sometimes we don't always help ourselves."
