Newcastle boss Pardew to go with Elliot ahead of Krul

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is happy to start the season with Rob Elliot in goal.

Tim Krul has only just returned from a serious shoulder injury.

Pardew said: "I would have no concerns at all about playing Rob against Manchester City.

"I'm a little reluctant to talk about this because Tim has been fine and will be absolutely fine.

"He has worked really hard and is over the injury.

"However, Rob has played a lot of games in pre-season and has looked really good.

"He came into the team at times last season and never let us down.

"We have two excellent goalkeepers at the club. We are lucky in that respect."
