Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew retains hope of keeping hold of Cheick Tiote.

Pardew’s men have just one point from two Premier League games and are yet to find the net after drawing at Aston Villa.

They also have a track record of cashing in on their top assets like Yohan Cabaye and Andy Carroll, who was flogged on deadline day in 2011.

But Pardew insisted: “I don’t think I’m going to lose a big player and I certainly hope – fingers crossed after Andy Carroll – that continues.

“The last two or three years, we’ve lost key players and the ones who’ve gone in just haven’t been able to carry the flag. We feel we’ve done good business this summer though and we’ve got a good solid team.”
