Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has denied reports he tried to sign New York Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry.

Arsenal legend Henry was linked with the Toon after the sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool.

When asked about Henry, Pardew told the Evening Chronicle: "I don't think that's possible."

However, he did admit there could be moves in the free transfer market, adding: "I haven't even thought about it, if I'm honest, but we will do over the next 48 hours."
