Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew says chief scout Graham Carr had a hand in victory over Wigan Athletic.

Pardew took time out to praise Carr and the rest of the scouting system for unearthing a gem like matchwinner Yohan Cabaye.

"I've mentioned before that Graham's an important figure at this football club," he said.

"Sometimes a manager takes all the credit but the Chief Scout and the scouting network is important. They have to be out there - they get nasty flights, sometimes they don't get picked up by the agent or there aren't any tickets left."
