Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew wants Shane Ferguson to prove himself tonight at Capital One Cup opponents Manchester United.
Pardew feels that the Magpies truly have a special talent on their hands, and a versatile player who can follow in the footsteps of Jonas Gutierrez.
Pardew told the Evening Chronicle: "He's definitely going to play down that left side.
"You could look at Jonas, who can play left wing, left-back, central midfield or the No 10 role as he did at Chelsea, and did it very well when we got a draw.
"But I think Fergie is going to be one like him. He's like Jonas, he'll play in any position and anywhere down that left side - and do it well. He's got a great chance."
