Newcastle boss Pardew chasing West Ham trio

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is planning a summer raid on former club West Ham United.

The People says Pardew is hoping to cash in on former club West Ham's relegation.

Several Hammers players are up for grabs and Pardew is interested in signing central defender Matthew Upson, whose contract at Upton Park expires next month.

Upson, 32, is no spring chicken, but Pardew believes he can persuade Mike Ashley that the England man can do a job for him.

But Pardew will have a harder job persuading him to bid for Demba Ba, especially as the West Ham striker's knee problems mean he may not pass a medical.

Reports linking Carlton Cole with a move north are thought to be wide of the mark, with Freddie Piquionne a more likely target.
