Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew feels Sylvain Marveaux can match the exploits of Hatem Ben Arfa next season.

The 26-year-old joined United from Rennes last summer but persistent groin and hip problems then restricted him to just 10 appearances.

"It's a target for Sylvain Marveaux," Pardew told the Evening Chronicle.

"He's seen that Hatem's come back from long-term injury and made the France squad.

"Hopefully, it'll be the same with Sylvain. That's the next project for him."
