Newcastle boss McClaren retains full confidence in Mitrovic

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren has full confidence in Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Mitrovic will miss the Watford game through suspension but the Serbian will be available for selection for next weekend's clash with champions Chelsea.

And McClaren expects the 21-year-old to finally manage to stay on the pitch and start hitting the back of the net with greater regularity.

He said: “We signed Mitrovic as a talent who can score goals. He scored goals in Europe so we expect him to. He is a new player, a young player coming in, he has got to adapt in the Premier League. It is the same for everybody.

“I don't want to say it is unfortunate, but he has been suspended now for three games. He didn't play the first two and came late, so he didn't have a pre-season with us.

“Like all the players we have signed, they have all got to get used to the Premier League.

“Some hit the ground running like (Chancel) Mbemba, and others need a little time to adjust."
