Newcastle boss McClaren: Mitrovic must stay in control

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren admits he plans to have words with Aleksander Mitrovic.

Mitrovic was booked within three seconds of coming off the bench for his debut against Southampton and, astonishingly, did almost exactly the same at Swansea City on Saturday.

McClaren said: "The nature of the game is changing. He has to adapt and keep his emotions under control. We all have to do that.

"There's no point looking at the reasons, he did what he did. I've had a lot of these type of players during my career and do not take that aggression, that emotion away from the game. Just don't do that. For example, Costa at Chelsea. You curb it and you take 50 per cent of their game away.

"You have to live with the others. He's a young man but he needs to control that and be smart with referees and opponents. But he's just showing his enthusiasm, his will to win and wanting to play."
