Newcastle boss McClaren: I wanted to loan out Rolando Aarons

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren admits he would've sent Rolando Aarons away on-loan if not for injury.

Ivan Toney joined Barnsley earlier this month.

Asked if he had been actively looking for his youngsters to gain experience on loan, McClaren said: “Yeah, he (Toney) has (been sent on loan).

“And if Rolando hadn't got injured we'd have been thinking about him as well.

“These players need gametime. You know Willo (Mike Williamson) too. I think the main thing is we're concentrating on what players we have here and what players we need here.

“We always said we'll have three months training with him (Toney) and then he'll go out on loan.

“That was the plan. The same with Rolando, but he's not quite there."
