Newcastle boss Kinnear ponders Ameobi, Owen sales

Newcastle United boss Joe Kinnear is prepared to sacrifice some of his first-choice players to fund team strengthening next month.

Newcastle United boss Joe Kinnear is prepared to sacrifice some of his first-choice players to fund team strengthening next month.

The Mirror says the Toon boss held talks with managing director Derek Llambias and Dennis Wise to stress the current squad needs strengthening and claims there is money to spend.

Kinnear may also have to accept losing players, with many stars at St James' Park fearing a repeat of the shenanigans in August when most of first-team squad were put up for sale by the board.

The 61-year-old is vulnerable to losing the likes of out-of-contract Nicky Butt, Michael Owen and Shola Ameobi in January to lighten the club's £70million annual wage bill.
