Newcastle United boss Joe Kinnear is pleased to sign Ryan Taylor in a swap for Wigan-bound midfielder Charles N'Zogbia.

He told the Evening Chronicle: "Charles has headed to Wigan and Ryan is coming here, subject to personal terms and medicals for both players.

"Ryan's very versatile, and that's the reason why I went for him. He's got a long throw and he's also excellent at set plays.

"He scores goals from dead ball situations. He can play wide-left, left-back, right-back and wide-right.

"If we have injuries in those areas, the boy's capable of doing exceptionally well.

"He played for England's Under-21s, and I think there's much more to come from him."
