Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton would be happy if Shola Ameobi committed himself to Nigeria.
The striker can still play for his home country Nigeria and has been consistently linked with the Super Eagles during his career.
Hughton told the Evening Chronicle: "Anything like that would be very much a decision for him.
"What is more important is the fact he is here doing the business for us.
"He is a good enough player to play international football."
