Newcastle United boss Chris Hughton says fit-again midfielder Joey Barton will be like a new signing next season.

The Scouser only made his comeback in late March in the 1-0 win over Doncaster Rovers.

Now, with Barton fit and ready to start pre-season on July 5 in tip-top shape, Hughton told the Evening Chronicle: "For us it will be a bit like having a new player, we hope. There has never been a question mark over Joey's ability, just his ability to be on the football pitch.

"We are looking forward to Joey coming back fresh and strong."
