Newcastle boss Benitez prioritises attacking midfield signing

Signing an attacking midfielder is Rafa Benitez's transfer priority this summer, despite his future remaining unclear, with his contract set to enter it's final 12 months.

Nonetheless, Benitez has remained focused on improving his squad for next season.

If the Magpies don't hit a significant form slump in their last eight games, they should avoid relegation. They're currently 13th and five points clear of the drop zone.

Benitez harped on constantly during the summer about the lack of sufficient investment for transfers from owner Mike Ashley. And the former Liverpool boss will be hoping for an improvement this time around or it may be his last season on Tyneside.

To fill his need at attacking midfield, Benitez has scouted ten targets over the last two months. The two standouts have been Red Bull Salzburg's Valon Berisha and Besiktas' Oguzhan Ozyakup, who will be available for free at the end of the season.
