Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez has revealed Sergio Aguero could've been a Liverpool player.
Manchester City star Aguero was one of the world's hottest prospects at Independiente after making his debut at the age of 15 in 2003 and hit 23 goals in 56 appearances for the Argentine side.
Benitez, who bossed the Reds between 2004 and 2010, revealed he was closely tracking the junior hotshot's progress.
But Atletico Madrid beat him to the punch in 2006 by striking an £18m deal.
"I was Liverpool manager," Benitez is quoted by the Daily Star.
"They offered him to us as a young player for big, big money. He signed for Atletico Madrid.
"He was a player that we knew. We were following him. We knew he was a very good player.
"I also have a good relationship with Sergio."
