Newcastle boss Allardyce read Carroll riot act

Newcastle United boss Sam Allardyce gave Andy Carroll a dressing down after he was kicked out of the England U19 squad last week.

Carroll had been expected to rejoin his Deepdale team-mates earlier this week following his unscheduled exit from the international squad. But Allardyce summoned the 18-year-old starlet to call in at St James' Park for 'a chat' before heading back to Lancashire.

Sources in the North East revealed Big Sam ordered Carroll to get his head down and work hard for the rest of his loan spell at Preston, says the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

"Andy is back with us today," said Preston boss Paul Simpson. "He had to go and speak to Sam before coming back. The lad is disappointed with what happened. But hopefully he can move on from this. He is only a young man and he can learn from this experience."
