Newcastle United fans will get their first look at new Spanish signing Jose Enrique in tonight's Carling Cup tie with Barnsley.

"Jose's one of the big young talents in Spain at Under-21 level and we hope that he will break through into the full national side quite soon," said Toon boss Sam Allardyce, who paid £6.3m to prise the promising full-back from Villarreal this summer.

"He's a strong, powerful left-back who has great talent and I'm hoping he shines (in tonight's Carling Cup tie)."
