Eagles chief Dougie Freedman turned down Stoke's approach in the last window when the Potters were willing to pay £1.5m and that decision has paid off.

Now the Geordies are poised to offer twice that sum and with Stoke sure to respond, Freedman will have a tough fight to hold on to his starlet.
