Relegated Newcastle United are eyeing a £2 million deal for Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford.

The Sun says former director of football Dennis Wise looked at the Leeds hitman in the January transfer window.

Beckford, 25, bagged 34 goals at Elland Road last season and could land a switch to St James' once owner Ashley gets his sale plans into gear.

The striker has already rejected Leeds' offer of a new three-year extension.
