Fabricio Coloccini is set to miss Newcastle United's Tyne-Wear derby with Sunderland next month.
The Magpies skipper was shown a straight red card for a lunging challenge on Aaron Lennon in his side's 3-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.
Coloccini will now automatically miss three matches for the struggling Toon who next take on third-placed Arsenal on March 21.
The following fixture is the all-important north east derby with the Black Cats at the Stadium of Light on April 5 while the third fixture he will miss is against Liverpool at Anfield.
Newcastle boss John Carver hinted that the club may look to appeal Coloccini's dismissal meaning he could still be available for the trip of matches if the plea is successful.
