Newcastle back to winning ways at Wigan

Wigan have still only won two games at the DW Stadium this campaign after a disappointing performance saw them lose 1-0 to Newcastle. The Magpies ended a run of three successive away defeats thanks to Shola Ameobi's nineteenth minute strike.

The result could have been more emphatic as defenders Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini hit the woodwork with headers.

The Latics looked like a team who have the worst goalscoring record in the top flight, even if Gary Caldwell did strike the bar.

The result leaves Wigan one point above the relegation places whilst Newcastle move up to tenth.
