Newcastle assistant Carver backing Ba 'to do well'

Newcastle United assistant manager John Carver is confident that new striker Demba Ba will be a hit next season.

The Magpies recently signed the Senegalese goalscorer from West Ham United and Carver is backing him to do extremely well at St James' Park.

"Towards the end of the season Demba went on a real scoring run," he said to the Sunderland Echo.

"He was scoring goals for a struggling team. He got seven goals in 12 appearances. He's another great addition to what we have at the club.

"To score goals for a team that was struggling for its life in the relegation zone is quite an achievement, and we're sure he'll do well for the club."
