Newcastle United are allowing reserves coach Alan Thompson to return to Celtic.

The Scottish Sun says Neil Lennon is on the verge of being confirmed as manager and it emerged last night that Thompson will soon be reunited with him at Celtic.

The Hoops have reached a deal with Newcastle for the coach to head north and United will announce Thommo's departure today.

Ex-Hoops team-mate Thompson will be a key part of Lennon's backroom team alongside No2 Johan Mjallby.

Old Leicester mate Garry Parker could also land a role.
