Newcastle Jets want to dominate their opponents, Nagoya Grampus, in tonight's Asian Champions League group match at EnergyAustralia Stadium. The Jets are still in a good position to qualify for the next phase of the competition but a win will give them an even better opportunity to progress.

Jets coach Gary van Egmond intends to dominate the opposition in a bid to get a better result than the 1-1 draw two weeks ago.

"I think what we did well in Japan was we set out to have a very strong defensive structure, we didn't dictate the game," said van Egmond.

"But we hope to reverse that and take some of the initiative of the game to the Japanese side, hopefully we can create a number of chances and capitalise.

"You are not going to win games consistently if you look to play counter attacking football, there are times where you need to press on, and you need to dominate the opposition.

"That's something we need to look at because we respect Nagoya in terms of their playing ability, and their playing ability under pressure.

"The group is very, very close and we know the importance of this game," added van Egmond.
